Sometimes, we see wrong things happening around us—people being treated unfairly, lies being spread, or harm being done. Should we stay silent or speak up? Allah teaches us that He does not like people speaking badly, except when it is to stand against injustice.
In Surah An-Nisa (4:148), Allah says:
“Allah does not love the public mention of bad things, except by those who have been wronged. Allah is All-Hearing and All-Knowing.”
What Does This Mean?
-
Speaking badly about others is disliked in Islam. We should not spread negativity, gossip, or insults.
-
But if someone is wronged, they have the right to speak up. If we see injustice, we are allowed to speak out against it.
-
Allah hears and knows everything. Whether we are truly seeking justice or just looking to harm someone, Allah knows our intentions.
How Can We Apply This in Our Lives?
-
Speak up for yourself and others when wronged. If you see unfairness, don’t be afraid to stand against it.
-
Avoid gossip and negativity. Speaking about someone’s faults without a good reason is harmful.
-
Check your intentions before speaking. Ask yourself: Am I saying this for justice, or just to hurt someone?
Why Does This Matter?
This verse teaches us that our words have power, and we must use them wisely. We should not spread evil, but when someone is being treated unfairly, Islam encourages us to stand up for justice. Allah hears everything, so we should always speak with honesty and sincerity.
