Have you ever been in a situation where telling the truth was difficult? Maybe you felt pressured to defend a friend or family member even when they were wrong. Allah commands us to always stand for justice, even if it’s against ourselves or those we love.
In Surah An-Nisa (4:135), Allah says:
“Those of you who believe, uphold justice and be witnesses to Allah, even if it is against yourself, your parents, or your relatives. Whether a person is rich or poor, Allah is close to both of them. Do not follow temptations in case you follow a wrong path. Whether you distort the truth, or stop yourself from it, Allah is fully aware of what you do.”
What Does This Mean?
-
Justice comes before personal feelings. We should speak the truth, even if it’s against our own family or friends.
-
We must be fair to everyone—rich or poor. Wealth and status should not affect how we judge or treat others.
-
Desires can lead us away from justice. Whether it’s fear, loyalty, money, popularity, or bias, we must be careful to be fair.
-
Allah knows everything. Even if we try to hide the truth, Allah is aware of our intentions.
How Can We Apply This in Our Lives?
-
Always tell the truth. Even when it’s hard, honesty brings peace and justice.
-
Treat everyone fairly. Whether someone is rich, poor, close to us, or a stranger, justice must be the same for all.
-
Don’t let emotions cloud your judgment. Whether out of love, anger, or fear, never let personal feelings make you unfair.
Why Does This Matter?
This verse reminds us that justice is a core value in Islam. If we always stand for truth and fairness, we build a world where people can trust each other and live in peace. And when we do what is right, Allah is always on our side.
