Have you ever noticed how a simple greeting can brighten someone’s day? A kind “Assalamu Alaikum” (peace be upon you) or “Good morning” can make people feel valued and respected. Allah teaches us in the Quran that returning greetings with kindness is part of good character.
In Surah An-Nisa (4:86), Allah says:
“When you are welcomed with a greeting, answer with a better greeting, or respond the same. Allah keeps account of everything.”
What Does This Mean?
-
Always respond to greetings with kindness. If someone says, “Assalamu Alaikum,” reply with “Wa Alaikum Assalam” (peace be upon you too).
-
If you can, make your reply even better. Adding extra kindness to your greeting spreads warmth and positivity.
-
Allah is watching. Even a small act like returning a greeting is recorded, and good manners earn His reward.
How Can We Apply This in Our Lives?
-
Always return greetings politely and warmly. Never ignore someone who greets you.
-
Make others feel welcomed. A simple “Hello” or “How are you?” can make someone feel valued.
-
Spread peace through words. Greeting others with warmth makes relationships stronger.
Why Does This Matter?
This verse reminds us that Islam encourages kindness in even the smallest actions. Something as simple as a greeting can spread love, peace, and unity. By greeting others warmly, we create a world full of respect and goodness.
