4. Protect yourself from people who tell lies.

Have you ever met someone who says one thing but does another? Maybe they act friendly, but later, they talk badly about others. Or they promise to help but never do. In the Quran, Allah talks about people who say they believe in Allah but don’t really mean it.

In Surah Al-Baqarah (2:8), Allah says:

“And among the people are those who say, ‘We believe in Allah and the Last Day,’ but they do not really believe.”

What Does This Mean?

This verse teaches us that true belief is not just words—it’s in our hearts and actions. Some people pretend to believe in Allah, but their choices show otherwise. They may lie, hurt others, or only act good when people are watching. People who claim to be Muslim, but lie to Allah and lie about Allah will also lie to others and cannot be trusted.

How Can We Be Truthful?

  • Be honest with yourself and others. Say what you mean and mean what you say. Never lie about Allah and never try to lie to Allah – Allah knows everything, including what is in your heart and what you’re thinking. If you lie to others, only do it when you believe Allah would forgive you for it.

  • Act on what you believe. If we believe in kindness, we should treat people kindly. But also if we know others are being treated badly, we should try to protect them, and we must also try to protect ourselves from harm.

  • Ask Allah to keep our hearts pure. We can pray, “Ya Allah, help me to be truthful.”

Belief isn’t just about words—it’s about living in a way that pleases Allah, even when no one else is watching.
