39. Saving Marriages with Wise Advice

Sometimes, disagreements happen in marriage, and things can feel like they are falling apart. But instead of rushing into divorce, Allah teaches us to seek help and try to fix the problem first.

In Surah An-Nisa (4:35), Allah says:

“If you worry that a split may happen between two people, send a mediator from his family and a mediator from her family.”

What Does This Mean?

This verse reminds us that marriage should not be broken without first trying to resolve issues wisely.

  • When there is conflict which cannot be resolved privately — seek advice. A neutral person from each side can help find a solution.

  • Mediation should be fair. The mediators should genuinely want to help, not take sides.

  • If both people sincerely want to fix things, Allah will help them. When efforts are made with honesty, Allah brings hearts back together.

How Can We Apply This in Our Lives?

  • Seek guidance before making big decisions. Whether in marriage or life, advice from wise people can help us see clearly.

  • Encourage peace, not division. If we see people struggling, we should guide them to getting along with each other, we should not encourage anger or further problems.

  • Trust that Allah can heal relationships. If both people try sincerely, Allah can bring back love and understanding.

Why Does This Matter?

This verse teaches us that marriage is worth fighting for, and conflicts should be handled with wisdom. If we turn to Allah and seek help in the right way, relationships can be saved—even when they seem broken.
