29. Not Everyone Wants Good for You

Have you ever noticed that some people feel upset when you succeed? Maybe they smile on the outside, but inside, they don’t want to see you happy. Allah reminds us in the Quran that not everyone around us wants the best for us—but if we stay patient and trust in Him, their negativity can’t harm us.

In Surah Aal-e-Imran (3:120), Allah says:

“If something good happens to you, it makes them unhappy and if you suffer a misfortune, they celebrate it. But if you are patient and keep Allah in mind, none of their plan will hurt you; in fact Allah surrounds everything they do.”

What Does This Mean?

This verse teaches us an important truth:

  • Not everyone will be happy for you. Some people secretly dislike seeing others succeed.

  • They may even celebrate your struggles. Their jealousy makes them feel happy when you go through difficulties.

  • But they can’t harm you—if you have patience and trust in Allah. When you focus on your faith instead of their negativity, their plans will fail.

How Can We Apply This in Our Lives?

  • Don’t let negative people affect you. Focus on your goals and trust in Allah’s plan.

  • Stay patient and mindful of Allah. Instead of getting angry or upset, keep doing good and leave the rest to Him.

  • Surround yourself with sincere people. True friends are happy when you succeed and support you when you struggle.

Why Does This Matter?

This verse reminds us that jealousy and negativity exist, but they can’t harm us if we trust in Allah. As long as we stay patient and keep our faith strong, no one’s hatred can take away our blessings. Allah sees everything, and He is the best protector.
