23. Loving Allah Means Following the Prophet

Many people say they love Allah, but how do we show that love? Is it just by saying it, or is there something more? In the Quran, Allah gives us the answer: If we truly love Him, we must follow the example of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).

In Surah Aal-e-Imran (3:31), Allah says:

“If you love Allah, follow me. Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. Allah is the Most Forgiving, the Mercy Giver”

What Does This Mean?

This verse teaches us that love for Allah is not just words—it’s action. If we really love Him, we will follow the guidance He sent through His Prophet (ﷺ). And in return, Allah promises us something even greater—His love and forgiveness.

How Can We Show Our Love for Allah?

  • Follow the Sunnah. Learn how the Prophet (ﷺ) spoke, ate, prayed, and treated others—and try to follow his example.

  • Be kind and honest. The Prophet (ﷺ) was known for his truthfulness and kindness to everyone.

  • Pray and seek forgiveness. The closer we are to Allah, the more He loves us.

The Most Beautiful Reward

This verse gives us a simple but powerful message: If we love Allah and follow the Prophet (ﷺ), Allah will love us back. And when Allah loves us, He protects us, guides us, and forgives us. There is no greater love than that.
