Have you ever felt stuck in a difficult situation? Maybe you had a disagreement with someone you cared about and you were worried about losing them, and maybe you questioned if you could have handled the situation better. In times like these, we turn to those we trust—good friends, loving family members, mentors or counsellors. Sometimes we feel like nobody can help us, but there is One who is always there, always listening, and always ready to help: Allah.
In Surah Al-Fatihah (1:5), Allah teaches us to say:
“You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help.”
What Does This Mean?
This verse reminds us of two important things:
-
Allah is the only one worthy of worship. Everything we have—our good relationships, health, food, even our ability to think and learn—comes from Him. When we worship Allah, we show that we appreciate Allah’s help.
-
Allah is the best one to ask for help. While we do ask others for support, ultimate help comes from Allah. He gives us strength when we feel weak, guidance when we are lost, and comfort when we are sad. If others help us, it is only because Allah guided them to help us.
How Can We Live by This Verse?
Next time you feel stuck or unsure, take a deep breath and say: “Ya Allah, help me.” Do your best, and trust that Allah will guide you in the right way. Whether you are a child, a teenager, or an adult, this verse reminds us that no matter what happens, we are never alone.
