Imagine you have a big, delicious meal, but instead of sharing the best part, you give away the scraps you don’t want. Would that feel like a true gift? Allah teaches us that when we give, we should give from the best of what we have—not just what we don’t need.
In Surah Al-Baqarah (2:267), Allah says:
“Those of you who are believers – donate some of the good things you have gained from your income and whatever you have been given from the Earth. Do not choose to donate the worst of it – things that you would only accept for yourself if your eyes were closed.”
What Does This Mean?
This verse reminds us that giving is an act of worship, and we should give with sincerity and excellence. If we wouldn’t want something ourselves, we shouldn’t give it to others. Allah wants us to give from the good things we have, not just the leftovers.
How Can We Give in the Best Way?
-
Give from what you love. If donating clothes, choose nice ones—not old, torn ones you wouldn’t wear.
-
Give with a happy heart. Don’t give just to get rid of something—give because you truly care.
-
Remember that Allah sees your intentions. A small gift given with sincerity is worth more than a big gift given carelessly.
This verse teaches us that true generosity is about quality, not just quantity. When we give our best for Allah, He gives us even better in return.
