12. True Goodness – More Than Just Prayers

Some people think being a good person is only about praying, fasting, or following religious rituals. While these things are important, Allah teaches us that true goodness is much more than that.

In Surah Al-Baqarah (2:177), Allah says:

“It is not morally correct if you turn your faces to the east or west, but the morally correct are those who believe in Allah and the Last Day and the angels and Book and in the prophets”

What Does This Mean?

This verse teaches us that being a good person isn’t just about praying in the right direction—it’s about what’s in our hearts and how we treat others.

True goodness includes:

  • Believing in Allah, His messengers, and His guidance.

  • Helping others, even when it’s hard.

  • Praying and giving charity.

  • Keeping promises.

  • Being patient in difficult times.

How Can We Apply This in Our Lives?

  • Don’t just focus on rituals—focus on your actions.

  • Help others, even when no one is watching.

  • Stay strong in difficult times, knowing Allah is with you.

Goodness isn’t just about what we say or how we pray—it’s about how we live. Real faith shows in our actions, kindness, and patience.
